Check out this video of the new "Lumalive" display technology from Philips. It looks like it will require some development in order to get the resolution up to meet the requirements for dynamic advertising, but just think of the potential!
Tiny projectors, e-Ink, and other flexible displays such as these light emitting textiles could really take what we think of digital signage now (big rectangular form factors) and push it to a new level. Beyond t-shirts, this could be embedded in furniture or draped over walls... its flexible nature could make it feasible to put almost anywhere.
The aspect I haven't heard mentioned yet is that of high portability. Flexible displays should be much easier to transport than today's plasma, LED displays and LCD screens. Think: deployment so rapid that it's almost an afterthought. Imagine being able to quickly install and then remove signage just as fast. Take your signage on the road. Hire college students to just walk around crowded venues while wearing your digital signage.
Definitely keep an eye on this type of display tech. Large plasma/LCD installations are still growing, so they won't disappear and they have a bright future. The display fabrics and e-paper technologies are just going to make digital signage even more pervasive and flexible than we could even imagine today.
