Successful Tradeshow Season at Scala

It's been very busy at Scala recently, with tradeshow season in full swing. Here are some updates on how we've been doing. It's an exciting time in the digital signage industry, and the development in tradeshows in general reflect this!

Scala was founded in 1987, meaning this is our 20th year. Check out our 20 Year Celebration web pages to gain some insight into how things were compared to how they are now, and perhaps glimpse some of the corporate culture as well.

Scalability Begins With Scala

Today, while working on some new additions to the Scala web site, I realized that "Scalability" begins with "Scala". You, like me, know how some seemingly trivial coincidence can set in motion a whirlwind of thoughts and ideas. And the more you think about this phrase like I just did, the more you can see how true it really is!

Scala InfoChannel is known in the industry for its rock-solid performance, 24/7 reliability, and un-believable scalability from one player all the way to networks of thousands of digital signs or kiosks.

The current generation product, InfoChannel 5, introduces Content Manager into the mix which brings Scala digital signage scalability to new heights.

But don't take my word for it. Check out these resources on our site to learn how, if you want scalability in your network, then you must begin with Scala.

US Federal Government to Mandate Secure Windows

According to The Register, a new directive this week orders the federal government to only deploy Windows with certain specified security measures implemented, with the level of detail going right down to the level of specific registry settings.

Resellers and system integrators that intend to sell Windows-based solutions to the federal government will have to ensure that their solutions meet the criteria. Presumably, any digital signage networks deployed for the government will need to take this into account.

According to a quote in NetworkWorld, Karen Evans said "Common security configurations provide a baseline level of security, reduce risk from security threats and vulnerabilities, and save time and resources," referring to the government's concept of standardized security configurations for their PCs.

Perhaps this will spur on a wider adoption of locked-down systems in the private sector as well.

Here Come the SSDs - Are Solid State Disk Drives in Your Future?

DailyTech seems to think so. They are trickling on to the market, currently at a high cost, but as the technology evolves and economies of scale come into play, we might have some fast, cool (temperature-wise), and energy efficient storage in our own equipment.

As the tech is still in its early forms I don't know how long it will be before they can be used in digital signs, but their resistance to harsh environments make them a smart bet for the future. Currently they are being examined for use in military applications, toughened notebook computers, and maybe databases.

Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Discusses Growth of Digital Signage Industry

Visit APB News for this artcle pontificating the proliferation of digital signage worldwide, now and in the fhttp://www2.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gifuture.

One passage in particular jumped out at me:

The Malaysian networks mentioned here all use Scala equipment “because it is an enterprise-strength system that can be [either] used for one location or scaled to hundreds of locations country-wide and beyond,” said Darke M Sani, managing director of Be Digital, which is the digital signage network operator for all the Malaysian installations cited. He said Scala’s network management capabilities allow for instant updating which helps in providing high-quality output. Creating attractive content is easy and quick with the Scala software-based authoring system.

Of course I highlight the Scala bit, but do read the whole article for a balanced, comprehensive view from multiple perspectives about where is headed as an industry. They cite falling display prices and greater availability of bandwidth options among the key factors.
